A home for teachers who want to prioritize their well-being
tired of being tired?As a working mom and teacher, I felt like a little piece of myself was dying each school year. I worked harder, faster, and more efficiently, but still could not enjoy my family let alone have any "me" time. I came home physically exhausted and unable to open my school bag. My good intention of working on schoolwork at home in my comfies never worked. I was burnt out. And I was not the only one. Many of my colleagues felt the same way. In a profession led by many who lean toward control, my teacher friends and I were feeling out of control. I knew there had to be a better way.
The journey I have been on since 2013 gives me hope that it is possible to be an effective teacher and a nurturing partner, parent, sibling, and/or friend outside of school. What it takes is a focus on YOU! This is not an easy task for most teachers as we are a selfless bunch. We put everyone's needs ahead of our own. But if you are tired of being tired, it is time to take care of yourself! Start today by taking just one step in the direction of your well-being. |
